Scarecrow Video: featured post

Warner Archives at Scarecrow: Take 1

“Why isn’t that on video?” In the 17 years I’ve been here at Scarecrow, I’ve heard that question more than a few times, and nearly every time, the answer is always the same - It’s up to the studio that owns the rights to put it out. And there’s more to it than that. To ...

Here’s the bulk of new titles to our shelves on this lovely summer day: Do The Right Thing: 20th Anniversary Edition-A newly restored two-disc edition that includes a new commentary track with Spike Lee, a “Do The Right Thing: 20 Years Later” retrospective, the eagerly anticipated deleted and extended scenes, and more. We’ve got in on ...

Let’s all take a minute to exist in peace and harmony in a world where Pixar’s UP is the top grossing movie of the year. This of course, will not last as the (reportedly) ugly, hateful and boring (at this point do we expect anything less from Michael Bay?) Transformers 2 is sure to overcome UP, ...

Eariler today I received a link from an outraged fellow Oscar enthusiast: The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences just announced that this year they will be expanding the Best Picture nominees from five films to TEN.  Here’s a quote from the press conference via  IMdB from Academy President Sid Ganis: “Having 10 Best Picture ...

  • ATTENTION PATRIOTS: We will be CLOSING EARLY at 9pm on SATURDAY, JULY 4th so the staff can celebrate our country's freedoms with family, friends and assorted sundries. If you're looking to rent YANKEE DOODLE DANDY or INDEPENDENCE DAY before 9pm on the 4th, head in today! #
  • Voting has begun in Seattle Weekly's yearly Best Of Seattle poll! While we can't help but be disappointed that the "Best Video Store" category is absent yet again this year, we're still going to throw our hat into the ring for some of the other categories. Hmm...how about "Best Shop for Getting to Know the Proprietor(s)"? Or "Best One-Day Getaway"? Maybe you've enjoyed our Tweets and think we're "Best Local Tweeter"? Yeah, it's a long shot, we know. You have until July 15th to vote for your favorite local haunts & happenings.  And if you're confused by what "Best Place for Spontaneous Parkour" means, come in and rent District B-13 from the France section. #
  • It's  the last weekend of SIFF! Are you going to see Every Little Step at the Egyptian on Saturday? Perhaps you should come in and rent A Chorus Line first. Will you be attending the big Closing Night Gala at the Cinerama with OSS 117: Lost In Rio? Maybe you'll want to watch OSS 117: Nest Of Spies first? If STIFF is more your scene (and there's nothing that says you can't enjoy both, people), don't forget the swank Awards Ceremony tomorrow at the Jewel Box Theater (inside the Rendezvous), hosted by esteemed local humorist Emmett Montgomery. You do want to see what film wins Most Kickass, right? Once these two great festivals wrap up, there will be a big hole one's viewing schedule.  Luckily, we've got over 100,000 titles to help fill the gap. Look for our special post-festival rental section coming soon... #
  • Aside from the awesomeness that is our 2 for 1 rental Wednesday, there's a lot going on in town film-wise tonight as the Seattle International Film Festival and Seattle's True Independent Film Festival enter their home stretches.  Mr. Francis Ford Coppola is presenting his new film Tetro tonight at The Egyptian at 7pm.  If you go to the Q&A tonight, please let us know how it goes. There's also a bunch more films today and this evening--read about them here.  STIFF has a great schedule tonight as well, including the local film phenomenon Bad Kung Fu. Read all about them over here. And Mr. Coppola, should you have some time to kill and want to come check out your section here in the store, we'd be honored to give you a tour :) #
  • There's not one but TWO new installments of  MacGuffin Podcast up now for your viewing pleasure. In these episodes, Spenser & company discuss everything from summer blockbusters to their favorite directors to the future of brick & mortar stores.  In regard to that last topic, we'd like to add this:  To all of you who choose to support the community and independent businesses such as ours with your consumer dollars,  we thank you from the bottom of our film-loving hearts.  As our owner has said, "The fact that we have been able to expand upon our dream is something that has been made entirely possible by our customers."  Our dream is to unite people with film, and its your passion for film that fuels this mission. We wouldn't exist as a (hopefully) cool place to do things like film a movie podcast without you and are always striving to be worthy of your support. #
